In a lofty warehouse in Dubai's industrial zone, temporary home to a time-lapse video, a wall painting and an oversized sculpture of a concrete breeze block, time and space certainly do matter. The curators Noor Al Suwaidi and Maisa Al Qassimi have explored these universal and scientific concepts in an exhibition of the same name that opened in Project D studios on March 9.

“The concept of the exhibition was to engage artists with the concept of ‘script’ in all its different forms, meanings, and uses in contemporary society – and in some cases to even look at what the future holds for the ways in which we document our thoughts. I found each artist’s unique interpretation of the brief deeply personal to their respective experience and artistic practice, and the resultant works therefore deeply thought provoking.

Noor al Suwaidi, public programmes officer with Abu Dhabi's Tourism Development and Investment Company, which helped organize the event, said: "In the UAE, we have a lot of proverbs and poetry, things that are very intangible. The idea behind this exhibit has been to make the intangible tangible. Some of the artists chose their own poems or proverbs to depict, and some were chosen by us."
